The turquoise stone is a celebrated gem, but not just because it's February's birthstone. Turquoise beads endured as a highly valuable gem in many cultures. It continues to be a prized possession today as a mystical antique, valued quite high due to its unwavering demand.
At very different times in history, the turquoise beads were once adorned on the wrists of Tibetan monks to ward away bad spirits, the faces of the ancient Egyptian burial masks to ensure a safe journey after death, and the walls of Persian mosques to show devotion.
Peppered with dark blues and brownish undertones, these turquoise beads are a bohemian chic style that have been seen on the likes of the Kewa Pueblo people of New Mexico. Originally hand-chipped, heishi beads were crafted from ostrich eggshells using pointed stones and other primitive tools. These techniques have been improved and perfected after centuries.
