These howlite beads mimic the beloved and intense blue of a wide open Western turquoise sky. The howlite stone is actually a milky white stone with the same black matrixes found in turquoise that, because of its porous nature, can be heat treated to exactly resemble turquoise. The howlite stone was discovered in 1868 in Nova Scotia, Canada. Just because these howlite beads resemble turquoise doesn't mean they are not valuable in their own right. The howlite turquoise is a great alternative if you want to use that vibrant blue color of turquoise but do not want to pay a steep price.
The howlite stone also is considered to have special properties unique to it, whether it is mimicking another stone or not. Just as the howlite stone can absorb different color, so to can it absorb negative energies to help its wearers be the best they can be.
